The inaugural Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to be held in Singapore August 14-26, 2010. The Internatioal Olympic Committee (IOC) wants athletes - 14 to 18 years old - to compete in the same sports as athletes at the current "Professional" Olympic Games.

The 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be made up of over 3,600 athletes and 800 officials from 205 countries along with over 800 media representatives and an expected 500,000 spectators. The 2010 Summer YOG will be followed by 2012 Winter YOG, Summer 2014, Winter 2016 and so on, in alternate years to the Professional Olympic Games.

Wait a minute, not so fast.   The IOC and Olympic broadcasters seek to sell the youth demographic to sponsors and advertisers. The creation of the Youth Olympic Games simply gives the IOC and broadcasters a youth product to sell. Is anyone concerned about the young lives affected by production of this Olympic "show"?

The International Olympic Committee is Irresponsibly Increasing CO2 Emissions with the 2010 Youth Olympic Games

Humanity is working to reduce carbon emissions to protect our planet.

Meanwhile, with minimal input from humanity, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is working to create a new systemic global sporting event commencing in 2010 with the Singapore Summer Youth Olympic Games, to be followed in 2012 with the Innsbruck Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Obama begins teardown of Bush climate policy - AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama began to shred Bush administration climate policies, signing measures to encourage production of fuel-efficient cars and vowing to lead the fight against global warming.

In another sign of change, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton picked a veteran of the Kyoto Protocol talks as her envoy for climate change, as world leaders target a historic global warming pact this year.

"The days of Washington dragging its heels are over,"  Obama said. "I've made it clear that we will act, but so too must the world."

The National Football League Focuses on Local Youth Fitness Without the Need to Fly 10,000 People Around the World for the Youth Olympic Games

TAMPA (Bay News 9) -- The Super Bowl means bringing more than world-class athletes, national attention and celebrities to Tampa. For some Bay area children, it also means more access to education.

In 2001, the last time the Super Bowl came to Tampa, the National Football League donated money to help build two youth education centers in the Tampa area. Now that the Big Game is coming back, the NFL is donating once again.

The league has given $1 million for the expansion of two youth education centers in the Tampa area, which means more room and more programs to serve more children.

Center coordinator Joe Troupe said they have plans to use the donations to expand the existing building. "It's going to be a big building," he said. "The kids can come in for fitness activities and more programs here, and it won't be as crowded as it was."

The International Olympic Committee's new Youth Olympic Games add up to a systemic increase in greenhouse gas emissions

Using established metrics that a roundtrip flight (over 7 hours long each way) for a single person results in 2.1 pounds of CO2-equivalent emissions per passenger-mile, given analysis of the number and geographic distribution of athletes, officials and spectators expected to participate in the Summer Youth Olympic Games, just the airline travel (for the Summer Youth Olympic Games every 4 years) will result in an increase in CO2-equivalent emissions of millions of tonnes.
