IOC Prescription in Conflict with Climate Change Problem

Today, at
www.olympic.org, the International Olympic Committee will make live announcement of host city chosen for the first Youth Olympic Games to be held 2010.

For stated purpose of inspiring youth to be more active, in July 2007, the International Olympic Committee voted unanimously that the world needs a second set of Olympic Games. TV ratings confirm that kids have lost interest in watching the Olympics. The Youth Olympic Games will see 4,200 athletes ages 14-18 compete in summer and winter events.

Analysis of athlete/press/official/spectator ratios from the professional Olympic Games show that the Youth Olympic Games will result in significant increased CO2 emissions as these people move across the globe each  four-year cycle.

A survey called “U.S. Attitudes to Olympics” conducted by HarrisInteractive (HarrisInteractive.com) in 2004 found that 51% of US adults favor not allowing professional athletes in the Olympics.
